Educational and research objectives

  1. In order to contribute to the development of our country and local communities, Graduate School of Economics will deepen research exchanges with universities and research institutes not only in Japan but also in other countries and regions around the world, mainly in Asia, to ensure superiority and to maintain a position suitable for the era of globalization. As an influential higher education institution with international competitiveness, we utilize a comprehensive academic and research system to elucidate the modern industrial and social system, which is becoming increasingly informatized, internationalized, and complex, and provides advanced analysis that can be used both domestically and internationally. The aim is to develop professionals and researchers who are rich in ability and judgment.

The Master's Program in Modern Economic Systems aims to develop human resources who will be responsible for the future of Japan's economy by providing comprehensive analysis, planning, and practical skills through education and research that lead to advanced knowledge in economic theory, economic systems, and data analysis. The Master's Program in Asian Regional Economics provides education and research related to the Asian regional economy from a broad perspective of understanding the international situation surrounding Asia, which equips students with excellent analytical and judgmental skills that enable them to play an active role in global society from a specialized perspective. The goal is to develop human resources with the following skills.

The doctoral program in the Asian Regional Economics Department provides education and research related to the Asian regional economy from a broad perspective, such as understanding the international situation surrounding Asia, grasping the domestic socio-economic situation, and acquiring economic theory that can be used as a means of analyzing them.     Degree Award Policy

    The procedures and evaluation criteria for thesis submission for the award of a degree in the master's program of this graduate school are as follows.

    Conditions for degree award

    In order to receive a degree, students must complete 30 credits, including the required 8 credits for seminars 1 and 2, and pass the master's thesis examination.

    Master's thesis review procedure

    1. Submission of first manuscript
    The first manuscript must be submitted by the end of October of the second year. The first manuscript must be approximately 80% complete. Completed master's thesis manuscripts will not be accepted for those who do not submit the first manuscript.
    2. Interim presentation
    An interim presentation will be made based on this first manuscript submitted in November. The graduate school committee selects three reviewers, including the seminar supervisor, for each graduate student, and during the interim presentation, the three reviewers listen to the graduate student's report and provide guidance, and based on that guidance, Revise and add to the content of the paper.
    3. Submission of completed master's thesis manuscript
    Submit the completed manuscript at the end of January.
    4. Public hearing and decision meeting
    A public hearing will be held for the submitted completed thesis in mid-February, and after being reviewed by three faculty members, the graduate school committee will finally decide whether the master's thesis will pass or fail.

    Evaluation criteria for master's thesis

    Master's thesis must meet the following criteria:
    1. Appropriate issues must be set based on a clear awareness of the issues.
    2. Prior research should be appropriately mentioned.
    3. Materials such as literature and research are used appropriately.
    4. The essay must be properly presented and well-formed as a paper.
    5. Creativity and ingenuity must be recognized.

    The procedures and evaluation criteria for thesis submission for the award of a degree in the doctoral program of this graduate school are as follows.

    Schedule leading up to doctoral thesis review

    At the time of admission, a three-member research guidance committee, including the supervisor, will be established, and a group guidance system will be established for the preparation of the doctoral thesis.

    Conditions for submitting a doctoral thesis

    1. Pass the academic ability test held after the second year. The academic ability test consists of two specialized subjects and one foreign language subject.
    2. Publication of two academic papers, reporting at an academic conference or equivalent study group.

    Paper evaluation criteria

    A doctoral dissertation must meet the following criteria:
    1. Appropriate issues must be set based on a clear awareness of the issues.
    2. Prior research should be appropriately mentioned.
    3. Materials such as literature and research are used appropriately.
    4. The essay must be properly presented and well-formed as a paper.
    5. The content of the paper must be original.

    Publication of doctoral thesis review results

    As a general rule, the thesis obtained, its summary, and thesis review will be published on the Internet within three months from the date of obtaining the degree.
